Kurti, the Most Comfortable Fashion Wear

At Ahaarya, we sell a great array of different designer kurtis, the Indian salwar kameez, blouses, accessories, and more. We bring the high and unique fashion of India to America and the rest of the world, which allows people to taste the variety and wonderful flavors of life, and the East. This blog will take a little time to explain to you just what an Indian salwar kameez is, because many Westerners aren’t familiar with that garment.

First, there are different designs of salwar kameez garments. For example, we carry the silk churidar kameez, a simple black kameez, a cotton kameez, and a red and green Patiala salwar kameez. Each has different designs and colors, textures, and fabrics. The basic garment is the simple salwar kameez.

If you were to define the salwar kameez, it is simply a type of traditional clothing worn by both women and men in South Asia and Central Asia, which of course, includes India. The “salwar” are loose pajama-like bottoms or pants. The legs are wide at the top and become narrower as you move toward the ankle. The “kameez” is the long shirt or tunic. There are side seams on the kameez that can be left open below the waist-line, which allows the person greater movement if desired.

So, an Indian salwar kameez is the Ahaarya or Indian version of the salwar kameez of Asia. It’s a two-piece garment, light in weight, and can be very colorful and intricate in design, or simple and solid in color (usually men prefer the simple version). You can find these at Ahaarya for affordable prices.
